The word was mum for a long while about progress on a film about the suffrage movement in England that goes into production in 2014. The UK loves its womens suffrage history, and the U.S. still has quite a way to go before the national suffrage centennial in 2020. If there isn’t a spark in someone’s eye about the opportunity there, then shame on us. Sarah Gavron will direct “Suffragette,” and the big news is that Helena Bonham Carter is now in talks to join the production. The period film about the movement also stars Anne-Marie Duff. Co-financed by Pathe Films and Film4, “Suffragette” will be produced by Faye Ward and Allison Owen. Exceutive producers are Katherine Butler and Cameron McCracken. The subject matter isn’t lightweight either. More about this in the future. Subscribe to LetsRocktheCradle or follow us on Twitter.
