WHO ARE THE CRADLE ROCKERS ANYWAY?
LetsRockTheCradle.com is targeted to those working in a determined and persistent way for the past decade to make sure the 2020 suffrage centennial would be recognized. Cradle rockers often have been volunteers with a vision. Some have been paid for their work by grants, fundraising, and from their own pockets. Some states have had 2020 suffrage commissions. There is now a federal 2020 suffrage commission, created more recently. The work of many in an informal network has led to an outpouring of interest and organization. They are referred to as cradle rockers.
WHAT INSPIRED THIS WEB SITE?
This web site was inspired by a visit to the “cradle” of the women’s rights movement in the United States in 2013. The Finger Lakes region of New York State is frequently referred to as the cradle of this social justice organizing. It includes Seneca Falls, Johnstown, Rochester, and other historic sites.
There’s a work in progress about the Liberty Bell film, soon to be released. This is an important addition to one theme used by the early women’s rights activists, that is, linking the themes of the American Revolution to the efforts to win women’s voting rights.
Updates from the Justice Bell web site and a recent email from filmmaker Martha Wheelock.
